Some Basic words in Patois

by admin on June 29, 2008

Jamaican patois is popular. It is spoken by Jamaicans and descendants of Jamaicans worldwide. Patoi is found in reggae music. If you’ve heard dancehall reggae artists, then you’ve heard patois.

Here are some basic patois words:

whaa pun – what’s happening

whaa gwaan – what’s going on

yuh drappy? – did you drop it?

ee bay seh suh – he had already said so

dash weh dat – throw that away

tekki up – pick it up

sidung desso – sit right there

let aff sih’n pah mi – give me (money, food etc.)
